Whilst paper wrapped Fish and Chips is glorious in a plastering of salt, vinegar and ketchup on a cold evening, it can be presented in more homely surroundings. Indeed, Sea Pebbles Fish and Chips restaurant in Hatch End, northwest London is a cosy diner whilst maintaining a no frills aspect to it. It is run by a Cypriot family and their homemade tartar sauce is scrumptious enough to eat on its own.
Should you go during the daytime on the weekdays you can often take advantage of their two courses for £12.95 deal. Whether you wish for more fish as your starter in the form of prawns or fish cakes, or rather to wash down your main course with bread and butter pudding, this lunchtime offer gives you flexibility in choice. Furthermore the main menu also has the added benefit of Mediterranean flavours, not least the Greek salad.
In terms of main courses my preference is the Goujons of Cod with chips. The beauty of this dish is the complete crispness throughout each Goujon unlike a conventional Cod piece which might be a little soft or soggy in the middle. The Haddock is also delightful and potentially big enough for two people to share.
It is highly advisable to come into the restaurant for a sit down meal rather than takeaway to ensure that your food is made to order. This way your fish and chips are presented with a fresher coating of oil that gives it a crunchier and highly sumptuous taste. Furthermore the majority of main courses come with a few rations of salad so you don’t feel so guilty!
As the restaurant’s slogan goes ‘once upon a pebble’ – you can be sure Sea Pebbles will pick the finest catches. They are now also open on a Sunday!
